In conjunction with the upcoming Brain Injury Awareness Month (BIAM), (March 1-31, 2024) the Intrepid Spirit Center (ISC) in coordination with the Fisher House of the Emerald Coast plans to present a 5 Kilometer (5K) Run/Walk Fun Run event.
WHO: The ISC in coordination with the Fisher House of the Emerald Coast will be hosting/sponsoring a 5K Fun Run/Walk to help promote and facilitate social awareness to the condition of traumatic brain injury (TBI).
WHAT: A 5 K Fun Run/Walk event open to all interested service members, their Families, individuals with base access and Retirees who have access to getting onto a Military installation. The Fun Run promotes personal fitness, community participation and awareness of TBI as a public health condition and to educate people about the local treatment facility (ISC).
WHERE: The event will be held at the Intrepid Spirit Center (1 Ash Dr. BLDG 2827) Eglin AFB. The run/walk route begins and ends at the Intrepid Spirit Center. The route is a 5-kilometer distance and is an OUT and BACK route through the local housing area. The route takes place entirely within the confines of Eglin Air Base property.
WHEN: MARCH 29th, 2025, at 09:00 AM.
WHY: Promotion and awareness of TBI as a condition/diagnosis having significant impact on all populations but recognized in a significant degree in the Military career field. The goal is to “get the word out” in support of BIAM and to promote the exceptional care options available at the Intrepid Spirit Center here on Eglin AFB. HOW: Self timed 5k run/walk. Sidewalk route that is well marked with intersection safety guards monitoring all intersections along the route. Water will be available on the route at mile intervals. There will be gift card prizes for the top male and female run finishers. As part of the race promotion there will be an additional opportunity to race against an ISC Staff member affectionately known as the “President” as his name is the same as the 15th President of the United States. Beating the “Presidents” time will also be rewarded with a gift card and getting the victors name inscribed on a plaque which will be displayed in the ISC.
